Ijazah program
ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ۖ فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْكَبِيرُ (سورة فاطر: 32)
(35:32) Then We have given the Book for inheritance to such of Our Servants as We have chosen: but there are among them some who wrong their own souls; some who follow a middle course; and some who are, by Allah’s leave, foremost in good deeds; that is the highest Grace.
Ijazah is an Arabic word that generally means permission or license, and when we talk about the Holy Qur’an, an Ijazah is a certificate that the Ijazah holder is reading Qur’an correctly; the way the Messenger of Allah Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him read it. Ijazah also is considered a license that the Ijazah holder can teach Qur’an to others, and issue them Ijazah himself.
Dhikr in Islam; the Meaning, Rewards and Benefits:
Adhkar is the plural of Dhikr, an Arabic word that generally means to mention, but in Islamic context, Dhikr means to mention Allah SWT, to orally glorify and praise Allah. A Muslim day has some times and occasions where there are specific Adhkar to say or read. Such as waking up, going to bed, morning and evening, and more.
However, Ijazah is not only a license or certificate it is a great honor as well. Being an Ijazah holder means that you read Qur’an correctly on your sheikh, who read it correctly on his sheikh, and the sequence goes back in a chain of credible sheikhs until ends at the Messenger of Allah PBUH. Ijazah is a chain that links you to the prophet Muhammad PBUH the Messenger of Islam that Allah SWT chose to reveal the Qur’an on Him.
Ijazah is also a great responsibility; it must not be given to someone who does not deserve it. This is the reason why there are conditions to be an Ijazah holder. First, the student has to memorize the whole Qur’an by heart. Second, the student’s recitation has to be very good with excellent application of Tajweed. Third, the student should recite the Qur’an by heart on his sheikh correctly according to one of the ten Qira’at. After that, the sheikh gives the student the Ijazah. No doubt that it is very important that any learner of the Holy Qur’an understands that he/she should have good manners; the manners of Islam, as they are holders of a great message and representatives of the Holy Qur’an.
When Ummul – Mu’menin A’isha, May Allah bless her, was asked about the manners and character of the Messenger of Allah PBUH she said: “verily, the character of the Messenger of Allah was the Qur’an.” This means that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH represented the Qur’an in his actions and manners.
